Stichting Unity In Diversity Rotterdam (UID) strives to give a voice to Africa's unheard stories, breaking the negative connotations often attached to Africa. We want to bring the new generation of multicultural societies in touch with the cultural heritage and traditions of Africa. Since Africa is the cradle of humanity, we are all connected somehow to Africa, something we should be proud of. The African Food Festival Rotterdam (AFFR) celebrates the unity of African hearts in Rotterdam, and we invite everyone to participate in this inspiring festival that celebrates the diversity and richness of African culture.
LIVE MUSIC
Experience the rich diversity of African music during our performance events featuring talented dancers, musicians, and bands representing a range of different music genres from Africa, including Afrobeat, Highlife, Soukous, Arabic music, and more. Each genre is carefully presented, highlighting the versatility and cultural richness of the entire continent.
As part of this event, we also provide a platform for emerging talent to develop and share their skills. Our open mic session offers an opportunity for new talent to present themselves and participate in a vibrant artistic community. The festival creates an inclusive space for creative expression and development.
Community
This festival transcends the usual celebration of art, music and culinary delights; it forms a vibrant meeting place where people from diverse backgrounds come together to share, learn and celebrate. What makes the African Food Festival truly unique is its emphasis on family and community.
Everywhere you see families and groups of friends gathered, enjoying delicious meals while having conversations and creating precious memories. Children frolic around, full of joy and play, while being inspired by the colours and sounds around them . The festival goes beyond just one day. It offers an opportunity for people from diverse backgrounds to meet, learn from each other and grow together.
Meetings and education
This festival includes educational components such as workshops, dance, games and exhibitions.
These activities can help both community members and informing visitors about the history, customs and values of the culture.
AFFR places a special emphasis on engaging young children because it is essential to take action now and inspire the next generation. Learning about new cultures offers children a unique opportunity to embrace diversity and opens the doors to valuable cross-cultural connections.
STREET FOOD
One of the most attractive aspects of AFF is the opportunity to proove various local delicacies from all over the continent. Here you get the chance to enjoy a rich variety of choices and flavors, all as exquisite as they are unique.
At each edition of our event we invite different African restaurants or chefs to present their culinary creations to present to our visitors. The primary goal is to shine the spotlight on the African entrepreneurs, giving them more visibility for their companies. Through these collaborations we aim to celebrate not only local flavors, but also the strength and diversity of the entrepreneurial community in Rotterdam.
Art & Craft
upcoming artists are always given a place to exhibit their work. Visitors can get to know local makers of art with the theme of Africa. The festival includes a small art market where visitors can admire art and buy something nice for a small price. From sculptures, photography, fashion to heritage, tangible and intangible, AFFR gives us a glimpse into what really African art is.
